About this deal

Parental figures were ridiculed, undermined as authority and most importantly refused to help Amelia when she was in a state of need. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! Amelia finds the ball boring – she wants to study Pumpkinology and help poorly pumpkins when she grows up. Amelia lives with her parents Count Drake and Countess Frivoleeta, and her pet pumpkin Squashy, in Nocturnia - a city in the Kingdom of the Dark, where glitter is terrifying and unicorns and sparkly fairies are the stuff of day-mares.

You can forget all the rumours about vampires not having reflections, as Amelia’s mother just loves hers! Also, believe it or not, there was also a twist to the plot that I WASN'T expecting in there, and that just brought the story up a whole nother level! I'm not going to lie, I've bought the whole of this series without having even read the blurb purely based on the beautiful cover and sprayed edges, and the fact that I love Laura Ellen Anderson's illustrations. This gloriously ghostly new series from the creator of EVIL EMPEROR PENGUIN is perfect for 7-9 year olds and fans of THE WORST WITCH and WITCH WARS.

From the talented illustrator of the Witch Wars and creator of Evil Emperor Penguin, Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball is book one of Laura Ellen Anderson’s first series as author-illustrator. Amelia Fang is a vampire who lives in Nocturnia, a world where vampires and yetis and all sorts of spooky creatures live - and they’re terrified of unicorns and ladybirds and fairies - and with good reason too. Then the King's spoiled son Tangine captures Squashy, Amelia and her friends must escape the party to plan a daring rescue!I can't believe I loved this story as much as I did but, by the end, I was absolutely hooked and kept thinking that if I ever have kids, I HAVE to read this to them! Welcome to the world of Nocturnia, where darkness reigns supreme, glitter is terrifying, and unicorns are the stuff of nightmares! Chapters usually ended with some sort of cliffhanger that would have my students begging for me to read one more chapter! They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated!

Everyone knew that while Nocturnians were sleeping and the sun was out, terrifying creatures from the nearby Kingdom of the Light lurked around the Petrified Forest. The Prince later took something of Amelia's that force Amelia to recruit her friends to help rescue. I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic! The situation worsens when the Prince and his father, King Vladimir, are special guests at Fang Mansion, ahead of the ball.Delightful, punny and brilliantly illustrated, this is a charming and madcap Halloween adventure that will make every reader want a pet pumpkin of their own! I loved the illustrations and the characters, and I thought the story was well-paced for kid and adult readers alike. Tangine realises that what he does is wrong and hurtful to others only after he is himself humiliated by Amelia. It's silly, in that Addams Family vein of humor where things could be scary but instead are delightful.

References to diePhone and The Great Gothic Gravestone Carve-Off had me chuckling, adding to how much fun I had reading this! Laura has worked with authors such as Sibeal Pounder, Cerrie Burnell, David Solomons, Caryl Hart and Peter Bently. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site.Furthermore might this have something to do with his father’s absent behaviour and mother’s disappearance.
