That, or I’ve not considered the fact it constitutes a sports romance (which to my mind indicates that sports didn’t play much of a role, and therefore I haven’t read a ‘true’ sports romance before). Since I started reading it, however, and followed the author on social media, I’ve seen a lot of the marketing materials around it which put this trope front and centre. That’s not unusual for me – my 5 star reviews are rarely gifted (this year I’ve only done two so far, Pride and Prejudice and The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo). New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.
In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. The dynamic between these two characters is influenced by their respective athletic backgrounds and the challenges that come with pursuing their passions in the sports industry. Imagine having three life-coaches who had been through the toughest mental and physical challenges; a crack team of problem-solvers who knew in their day job that one mistake could be the difference between life - and death. A resolve to be a giant among men, to conquer, plunder and seize the greatness that he thinks is his right. Amusingly, this revelation has actually impacted my own writing, as the main male character of my current WIP ( Bane ), evolved into a footballer while I was reading the Triple Trouble books.
