About this deal

Side Note: regardless of the type of cable you may or may not have, double check that everything is plugged in right. I don't mind that it isn't 6gbs but find it incredibly frustrating that for old hardware like that, there is so little information. So if you have a Dell card like the H200 or H310, instead of looking for an IT version for the 9211-8i look for the firmware for the external port version (equivalent to the 9211-8e). The LSI P5 EFI flasher (and MSDOS version if using MSDOS) seems to be very reliable for other OEMs and versions, but if not, you'll have to find a version of sas2flash that does work for it and for you. HBAs and network cards are both a) very close to the metal and b) complicated, especially when you start doing server stuff, so tried and tested drivers and the like are highly beneficial especially when the underlying tech you're using hasn't changed very much.

I found no other version of the flasher that worked reliably, having tried LSI's P7 EFI, a DELL flasher, etc. exe) will NOT work on a board that's detected as EFI, and sas2flash EFI will NOT work on a board lacking EFI.If at any time during flashing, you find that basic operations like sas2flash -list or flashing aren't just misreporting but are unable to complete any more, and it looks like it's because the card is scrambled or bad NVRAM checksum issues, not just because it's a wrong version of something somewhere, or what it's found isn't what it needs, and you can't figure it out, don't hesitate to go back to wiping the card with megarec and starting the crossflash again. It may also be known as the firmware for HBA not RAID cards, but a dell/fujitsu card will usually have dell/fujitsu firmwares as well and you'll probably need that as well. Unless you really need/want these, it's usually best not to flash a boot rom as it won't do much except slow your system boot.

I'm going to assume you will run this all off a USB stick, but you coiuld do the same off a CD/DVD or spare hard drive. FIRMWARE/BOOT ROM VERSIONS, VARIANTS AND THEIR USUAL FILENAMES: The firmware file itself comes in two variants, depending if it's to be used as an HBA (the "IT" version) or a RAID card (the "IR" version). Also being own design, they are much less likely to be "grey market", "knockoffs", or "seconds" of LSI cards.

It will remember its "manufacturer" even when fully erased, until a new manufacturer's firmware is flashed. Grab the SAS ID (and perhaps the SBR data) if you care about it, check your system is okay and any storage devices safely dealt with (see "preparations"), and download/unzip a known good version of your card's OEM (Dell/Fujitsu) IT firmware to use as a first "jump".But flashing a standard default "empty" SBR seems to work absolutely fine for virtually everyone, judging by how rarely it comes up in posts. The principle's the same, you might need different software to create a bootable MSDOS device with MSDOS basic system files on a different type of storage device.

On an EFI board the USB stick will show up as 2 options: "USB (NAME)" and "UEFI USB (NAME)" - choose the first for MSDOS and the second for EFI. New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging .Of course you can also choose to simply update the IR firmware if you wish, then you'll need that file, located in Firmware/HBA_9211_8i_IR. Build Logs: Tophat (in progress), DNAF | Useful Links: How To: Choosing Your Storage Devices and Configuration, Case Study: RAID Tolerance to Failure, Reducing Single Points of Failure in Redundant Storage , Why Choose an SSD? These are about the only cards I wouldn't bother reflashing to LSI, although it would almost certainly be OK, because I trust their native firmware to be done well and up to date, hence no need. EDIT: So I just went down the rabbit hole of your last thread with the 9207-8i that you switched for this 9211-8i.
