I nursed my daughter for over 2 years and to say that she was obsessed with the boob is an understatement. We did our own booby moon ritual tonight, complete with cake and a balloon release, and she helped me put away the shirts I've used to nurse her to sleep. It features a magical element that appeals to the child, so that they look forward to their weaning day and are more emotionally prepared to say goodbye to nursing. In the same way that the Tooth Fairy makes children happy about their teeth falling out, looking forward to seeing Booby Milk magic fly away to Booby Moon can give the same wondrous joy to a weaning toddler. I thought some of the book might have had an effect on him, but I did not expect such an immediate and magical change. It is beautifully written and illustrated and really touches on the intense bond that breastfeeding fosters and how hard that can be to give up, for both mum and child. Even though we’re not officially weaning yet, he’s fascinated by the idea that the toddler in Booby Moon doesn’t need milk anymore, and I can see it’s a first step towards laying the foundations. We've been down to only night nursing for a long time, which is likely why he wakes several times a night.

We cuddled up and had some water and sang songs and I'm not gonna lie it took forever, but nursing was taking forever too so no surprise there.I really like the idea of my toddler being the one to have a physical representation of letting go of milk but I cannot release a balloon. Studies show the practice of ritual during times of loss alleviates grief, makes us feel closer to our families and helps us to say goodbye.

Group Leaders aren’t expected to spend any additional time in the community, and are not held to a set schedule. The concept was created in 2020 by a breastfeeding mother who was ready to wean but could not find a children's book on the market that offered her toddler an upside to their impending loss. Book also includes a gentle-parenting user guide that how to wean using Booby Moon, night weaning prior, breaking the fed-to-sleep habit and various options for a meaningful goodbye ritual. Book also includes a gentle-parenting user guide that covers: how to wean using Booby Moon, night weaning prior, breaking the fed-to-sleep habit and various options for a meaningful goodbye ritual. The back section of Booby Moon contains kind, insightful guidance for using the book to facilitate weaning. As in Reid’s real life, the mum and toddler in the book mark the occasion, on the night of the toddler’s birthday, by having one last feed before releasing a glow-in-the-dark helium balloon, thanking the milk and waving goodbye as it floats away. Maybe we’ll have a party and release a magical balloon; maybe we’ll just talk about how he doesn’t need milk anymore, “Like the toddler in Booby Moon ! In the same way that the Tooth Fairy makes children happy about their teeth falling out, looking forward to seeing Booby-milk-magic fly away to Booby Moon can give the same wondrous joy to a weaning toddler. It helped us through something I was very apprehensive about, and made the experience something positive for my son. It explains that the moon sends down magical booby milk for babies to drink, and that the time will soon come to send that magic back to the moon, so that new babies can have milk, too.

I followed the advice towards the back too and I can hardly believe I'm saying this but by the 3 week mark, we were weaned.I'll admit, while I was excited to give reading the book a go, I had a healthy amount of skepticism about how much it would help. He still asked for it occasionally but whenever he did we reminded him of how we had let it go and there were no complaints, no pleading, no tears. Not only does the author give tips, tricks, and resources to the parent in the back of the book, but the story itself is beautifully written in rhyme to keep the little ones attention and the author helps give alternatives if "booby" isn't your go-to word - so it will work for everyone!
