Description

It's a really fast read with just under 100 pages of art pieces with hilarious lines that really suit the pictures. In her new book “Men to Avoid in Art and Life,” Nicole Tersigni harnesses her skill with a Twitter meme to illuminate the experience of women harassed by concern trolls, “sexperts” and more.

The artistic examples Tersigni has chosen are absolutely perfect for her material - the reader can't fail to sympathise (and empathise) with the recipients of all this masculine "insight". These less qualified men of antiquity dish out mediocrity as if it’s pure genius * For the women who have endured overbearing men over the centuries * Written with hilariously painful accuracy”Now, when you’re riding a horse, you need to make sure to keep a good grip on the reins. Through cringe-induced empathy, these shared experiences unite women across history in one of the most powerful forms of resistance: laughter.Rather than get me excited to read, the tone and forced jokes actually made me want to put the book down. In the foreword, Jen Kirkman explains to men that you know that not all men are like the ones that you described in the book. I have an almost ten-year-old daughter, and I want her to know that this is not happening in her head and that she can acknowledge it and do something to fix it. Die Autorin hat ein sehr gutes Gefühl für die Kombination aus Bildern und Test und wenn man die Sprüche liest fühlt man mit und sieht den Frauen ihr Leid förmlich an.

Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. And then they sat down and had a conversation: her mother was sharing stories about all the sexism that she faced growing up and being in the workplace.

The original Twitter thread was one part performance art, one part satire, and one part exasperated disgust at having your own joke or experience explained back by a 'concerned guy' on social media for the umpty-bajillionth time. Men to Avoid in Art and Life is a gem, hilariously providing all-too-familiar context for paintings of yore: Look at Vermeer's reply guys! There are also quality filters so sometimes I don’t even see them, but when I do they are very easy to ignore because they are very boring and unoriginal. While the original thread felt like a fresh take on well-known tropes, the book just ends up feeling slight -- or worse, like a case of feminism bowing to capitalism. If you have 15 minutes to spare and humor yourself, then this is the book for you, I just wish it contained more.
