About this deal

Now, I don’t recommend using store-bought roses for your experiment! If you are growing roses in your garden, then yes, that would be the best, especially if they are Rosa Damascena.

There is an old Middle Eastern tradition whereby guests are greeted and bid farewell by a sprinkling of water mixed with either rose or orange blossom. I like to revive this custom at home by offering a hand bowl filled with orange blossom scented water at the end of dinner. If you’ve served finger foods, this is especially appreciated. Your guests can then leave well-fed and perfumed. 3. Natural Room ScentSpray orange blossom water onto your inflamed skin to reduce inflammation! Apply it for inflammatory skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. 12. Hair Perfume Being water-based, floral waters and hydrolats are prone to contamination by mold and bacteria. If you transfer the floral water or hydrolat into a new container, such as when you make a perfume spray, it is best to sterilize the container first. The nice thing is, unlike with essential oils, floral waters and hyrolats can be kept in plastic bottles. As they are gentle and possess a limited concentration of essential oils, floral waters can safely benefit all skin types. They also can be used by the whole family, which is a particularly interesting aspect for babies, pregnant women or nursing mothers, to whom essential oils are often forbidden. Any citrus will love a hint of orange blossom, but lemons and oranges even more so. You can try mixing in a 1/4 teaspoon of orange blossom water into a glass of orange juice for a refreshing drink. Add it into orange marmalade, store bought or homemade. Or try the Moroccan style orange salad I shared in my Two Orange Salads Against Winter Blues article. 7. Vegetable Salads Keep your orange blossom water stored in a glass jar or clear container in the fridge or a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.

Do you have favorite ways of using orange blossom water? If you have shopping suggestions for orange blossom water or favorite brands, please share. I recently learned the word “alembic” from my friend Anna on Facebook. When I posted a video after gathering the citrus flowers and said I was going to try to make some citrus water she said that her grandmother, who was also from Cyprus, used an alembic to make it. It was the first time I heard this word. I knew the word “still” and that was how I used it until now but when I mentioned the word “lambikos” which is the equivalent Cypriot word, she told me that the etymology of alembic and lambikos share linguistic history. Strain. Use a cheesecloth or fine mesh to strain the blossoms out of the water. Store in a sealed jar or use immediately.

Orange blossom is not just for desserts. You’ve probably tasted it in more savory prepared foods than you realize. Used in small quantities, it can add an intriguing, memorable twist. One of my favorite vegetable pairings is with cucumber. Add 3 teaspoons for every pound of cucumbers and season with salt and lemon juice. Try orange blossom water in a simple lemon-olive oil vinaigrette (2 Tablespoons of olive oil, 1/2-1 Tablespoon of vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon of orange blossom water, salt, pepper) and use it to dress green salads. The benefits of orange blossom water can be attributed to its natural nutrients. It can tone the skin, soothe and relax the nerves, and make skin soft and smooth. It can also aid in treating stomach upset and digestion, and help boost your immune system. Orange blossom water also heals pet wounds, soothes sunburns, and conditions hair. It even has a calming effect and helps promote sleep. Try including orange blossom water in your daily routine to reap its benefits. Frequently Asked Questions

Mix. Add ¼ cup of orange flower petals to a saucepan and pour in 1 cup of distilled water. Stir well. Less is more when it comes to the water. Start with less water and see how strong the orange flower water is. You can always add more to dilute it to your liking! Orange blossom water is a flower water (like rose water) that’s made from the blossoms on orange trees. It’s a wonderfully floral, citrus flavor to add to baked goods, salads, and drinks. How to Use Hydrolats for Babies and Young Children : https://theherbalacademy.com/how-to-use-hydrolats-for-babies-and-young-children/

Relieve sunburn by spraying on orange blossom water. It cools and soothes sun damaged skin just like rose water! 7. Cools Rosacea In Herbs for Natural Beauty, Rosemary Gladstar outlines a home-brewing method that’s simple and fun and takes about 45 minutes. Flower water and floral water are both names for the same thing — in simplest terms, a “water” that has a floral aroma. These waters are made in several different ways. This recipe makes enough for two to three servings, unless you are using one of those really big martini glasses. This is another of those “match made in heaven” pairings. Orange flower tones down the waxy, animalic notes of honey, while honey enhances the floral facets of orange blossom. Try adding it to any dish in which you would use honey, even a honey marinade for meat (a few drops would be enough). Or mix honey and orange blossom water till you have a creamy emulsion and spread it over a piece of toast. If you think that you can’t have too much of a good thing, then add a layer of butter too. Orange blossom works perfectly with butter, but then again, what doesn’t? 10. Mineral Water Another inspired combination can be found in classical Moroccan cuisine. Mix grated carrot with olive oil, lemon juice, orange blossom water and a sprinkle of cinnamon. You will taste carrot in a completely new guise.
