There’s a more screwball antics here with slapstick occurring but not as much as there is the sort of upstairs-downstairs complications that occur. Dragons Forever is jam-packed with fights that you’ll never forget, like the final match between Jackie and Benny “The Jet” Urquidez where you can literally hear real bones breaking as they kick, punch and throw each other across an evil laboratory.When the first DRAGONS FOREVER blu-ray was released in 2020, I had commented that it felt a little bit off that there was no Frank Djeng commentary track given how big this film was.
Since the first print edition, 88 Films had been stepping up on the amount of work done to their releases, with the addition of deluxe collector’s edition releases which started with Jackie Chan’s The Young Master (師弟出馬). But you do get a new audio commentary on the film from Mike Leeder and Arne Venema, and there are a handful of new featurettes too. The switch flips about a quarter into the film, as the trio turns against the chemical company once they discover they’re manufacturing narcotics that are poisoning the water. Dragons Forever was originally going to be a 4K Ultra HD only release, but due to fan confusion in both regions they decided to make the release a combo pack.
