About this deal

Hasbro and Threezero are pleased to introduce the Autobot leader Optimus Prime as the first TRANSFORMERS: WAR FOR CYBERTRON TRILOGY product in the Transformers DLX Collectible Figure Series! As the Autobots and Decepticons close in on it, the Allspark launches a defense system that alters perception and disrupts all functionality. Under Megatron's leadership, the Decepticons conquered many city states including Kalis, Tarn, and Vos. When the time came to strike against Iacon, Megatron led a five-con team in under the cover of darkness to bomb the Iacon Energon Refinery. They had barely planted the first bomb when they were spotted and fired on. After the other three Decepticons were shot down, Megatron gave Soundwave a bomb and set about causing a distraction while his second-in-command went to plant it. When Soundwave was also shot down, Megatron flew into action, helping up the rest of his team and carrying Soundwave as they retreated under the cover of an exploding bomb. War Story

Fritz, Ben (August 6, 2010). "Old titles help drive Activision profit up". Los Angeles Times. p.23. Archived from the original on October 29, 2021 . Retrieved October 30, 2021– via Newspapers.com. Optimus forgoed the first engagement of the war, allowing the Decepticons to take Fort Scyk so he would gain time to recruit more Autobots. Optimus learned from Jazz after the fall of Scyk that he would have to learn to not mourn every soldier. Optimus fought for the first time during the next battle, the siege of the Hydrax Plateau. The first Cybertronian he ever killed was a former industrial drone named Drixco. Afterwards, Optimus confided to Alpha Trion that the act of killing alone made him feel he was on the wrong side. Despite the efforts of Optimus and Ultra Magnus the Decepticons conquered the Hydrax Plateau. It was at the stalemate of Praxus that Optimus gained the indispensable allies Prowl and Ironhide. The first Autobot victory was at Kalis, a vital area due to its fusion reactor that powered Iacon. Optimus, Jazz and Sideswipe worked together to bring down the monstrous Bruticus Maximus, but the battle was mostly won due to the Seekers' absence. As Energon depleted, the war descended into a mere siege of Iacon lasting millions of cycles, and Optimus opted to eject the AllSpark itself into space: during this battle, Optimus gained another great friend in Bumblebee. Optimus has a plan but needs Ratchet's help. Ultra Magnus is tortured for information while Starscream continues to foster dissent among the Seekers. The world of Cybertron was designed in such a way that the Transformers would have a proper scale on their homeworld. "It doesn't make sense that things would be smaller than them in their world," Tieger said, adding "the key character in scale was making their world gigantic and huge." [7] Matt Krystek, Lead Designer at High Moon stated that since the game is not tied to a movie they were able to tell their own story. He cited the G1 universe as the inspiration for the game. [8] Jim Daly, Lead Concept Artist at High Moon also cited the G1 universe as the main inspiration for the design of Cybertron itself, also stating that there were elements from Disney's TRON, Blade Runner, and the Aliens franchise. [8]Japanese: Optimus Prime (オプティマス・プライム Oputimasu Puraimu), Orion Pax (オライオンパックス Oraion Pakkusu), Optimus Exprime ( Go!, オプティマスエクスプライム Oputimasu Ekusupuraimu) Orion Pax/Optimus Prime's involvement in the preceding events, or events mostly similar, were also chronicled in the comic " Transformers: War for Cybertron." Each of the characters was totally redesigned for the game, taking cues from previous iterations from the Transformers lore. "What they've allowed us to do is take a licensed property and treat it like a brand new IP" stated Tieger. [8] The vehicle modes for car-based characters initially consisted of wheels, however, the developers found that it crippled gameplay by removing the player's ability to strafe while in vehicle mode. Taking the dilemma to Hasbro, the two companies agreed that characters would turn their wheels down and hover while in vehicle mode, allowing for more movement. The vehicles would then revert to the traditional wheeled mode while using a character's boost, maintaining what the Transformers license had established with previous canon. [7]

Hasbro's Aaron Archer stated the game would be only part of a bigger group of media. "This won't be the only touch point. It's a big place that we're going to build off of." [8] At a BotCon 2010 panel, War for Cybertron Creative Director Matt Tieger stated Activision is currently in talks with Hasbro on creating additional titles. He also added that Hasbro is "considering" expanding the brand further into the realm of video games. [9] Joe Moscone, Senior Account Manager for Hasbro's public relations team, further clarified that War for Cybertron is in the same continuity as the Transformers: Prime animated series and Transformers: Exodus novel, and that this would be the primary continuity going forward. [10] Hasbro has released a toy line based on the War for Cybertron setting. [11] Transforming figures of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron and Soundwave from the game have been released by Hasbro under the Transformers: Generations banner.

Trion told him of the existence of the Omega Keys on Earth, and Prime immediately set about decoding the four final coordinates from the Iacon database. After Arcee returned from the first set of coordinates with news that Megatron had invited Prime to come get the first key, Optimus went to Egypt to find that Megatron had grafted the arm of a Prime onto himself and forged the Dark Star Saber. Though Megatron's new weapon shattered the Star Saber, with Smokescreen's help Prime returned to base with the first Omega Key and resumed his decoding work. Alpha/Omega War for Cybertron developer High Moon Studios and publisher Activision worked closely with Hasbro to create the design and story for the game. "I want to make the game I've been waiting 25 years to play" said Tieger. [8] The studio brought the concept and idea to Hasbro for approval. It began with a sketch of Bumblebee. "That was that first sketch that we slid across the table to Hasbro and said 'What do you guys think?' And that's where it all started" said Tieger. [8] High Moon presented the idea of setting the game on Cybertron during the Transformers' civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Aaron Archer, Senior Design Director for Hasbro, stated of the Cybertron-based setting "that's a really cool place [...] and the early days of that civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons was a story that hadn't really been fleshed out in any format." [8] The next morning, Megatron convened with Optimus outside the negotiation hall, only to reveal that he had brought along six Vehicons with him to kill Optimus. The two began fighting, until Skywarp detonated a bomb outside, which caused the Pavilion to start flooding. Optimus switched off his Matrix and helped Megatron to escape, but on the surface they encountered Tyrannicon and his Sharkticon flotilla, who arrested all the Cybertronians present. The defeated Autobots and Decepticons were rounded up into a prison ship headed for the city of Hydratron; Megatron spent most of the voyage loudly and angrily criticizing Optimus Prime's leadership. When the prisoners were transferred to a train, Megatron ran afoul of several Sharkticons, who managed to subdue him long enough for him to be loaded onto the train and shipped to Hydratron's Hall of Justice. The past, present and future collide on Cybertron as the final showdown for the Allspark begins with some unexpected participants.
