About this deal

Like ski pants, the Component H20 gets a gator that fits over the boot top to prevent water from soaking your feet when fording streams or churning through deeper puddles. If you ski, you've used a system just like this, and our tester found it to be easy, with hook-and-loop fasteners that allow easy closure and a zippered cuff on top of that. Most of the time I wear Level 1 armour, and in jeans I do like the D3O Ghost protectors as they’re extremely slim, flexible and breathable, but they’re best for me in tighter-fitting trousers. In reply to a comment on our video (see below), PPE expert Paul Varnsverry took a snapshot of the abrasion resistance tests – which are carried out using a properly calibrated Cambridge machine with a 60 grit belt –and studied all the results to find that of 53 motorcycle jeans tested, only 23 had an abrasion resistance score of two or more out of ten. They were all lined jeans. When I’m riding faster and further, I tend to wear AAA-rated lined jeans. Not the heaviest-duty ones as I still want to be able to spend the day in them comfortably, and I’ve done that in the much hotter climates of Spain and the US. I wear these as I understand that layering of materials can significantly increase abrasion resistance. Again, I’ll always have full armour fitted. Like the Darmstadt machine, this is not intended to give a specific slide time or duration on a road – it provides what’s called a ‘relative abrasion time’ that allows you to compare products.

Usually, the highest (AAA-rated) clothing for moto is made of leather, making you look like a Marvel extra who wandered off the set. Dainese flips that script with what looks like traditional cargo pants, right down to the cotton feel of the fabric—which is woven with Armalith yarn, which isn't too different from the Dyneema Sa1nt uses for its jeans. The fit's different here, however, with a looser cargo cut, but like those jeans, the idea is the same—exceedingly high resistance to abrasion during a slide.A tapered fit creates a contemporary silhouette whilst offering similar levels of practicality as a roomier straight leg fit. A crotch gusset has been added to give extra flexibility which, coupled with a precisely selected amount of fabric stretch, helps to prevent the hem of the pant from riding up when sat on the bike.

Of course, abrasion resistance isn’t the only measure of safety – burst and tear strength is just as vital, which is why I think it’s important to go for AAA-rated jeans. The key ingredient in chino pants is of course the chino twill fabric used in their construction. Here Riding Culture has replicated both the look and feel of traditional chino cloth. Thanks to a single-layer construction these moto chinos wear exactly how you’d expect a pair of regular chinos to; with the added benefit of all-day riding comfort due to a generous amount of built-in stretch. In England, these motorways and major A-roads are looked after by National Highways, who told me that while they generally use what’s called a thin surface course system (asphalt) that by its nature provides a smoother finish for road users, this government agency only looks after about 2-3% of the country’s roads. These only come in regular length 32" inseam. I usually wear 34"in jeans. The length is actually OK for me when not on the bike buy once sitting on the bike they do come up a bit short. I will probably wear with a pair of my longer boots so won't be an issue. Would be good if Oxford offered long (and perhaps short) leg lengths. It’s totally your call what you wear on a bike, and hopefully this feature has helped you decide what you want to buy. For some inspiration, here are the riding jeans we’ve reviewed at Bennetts BikeSocial and would most highly recommend…

The innovative 100% polyamide double layered Power Shield (PWR|shield) panels stitched into the critical seat and knee areas offer abrasion resistance in the event of an off. The PWR panels are created with a unique Aramid fibre and knit technique which results in a fabric with unsurpassed cut, tear, and abrasion resistance level yet is far lighter than its Kevlar equivalent. Layered with the Cordura outershell, that also provides 3x times the abrasion resistance of regular cotton used in most motorcycle pants, theREV’IT!Alpha Chinos offer 5.9+ seconds of abrasion resistance which is greater than leather pants. Armour Protection Road surfaces across the UK vary massively, but you’ll find more and more of the highly-abrasive surface dressing (or chip-seal) on country roads. PROTECTION! CE and UKCA certified to EN 17092-2:2020 for Class AAA garments: the highest level of protection specified by the standard. There have been close ties between skate and motorcycle culture for decades. Many esteemed names in skateboarding like Max Schaff, Steve Caballero and Scott Pommier, to name just a few, all ride. So it’s only natural that aspects of skate fashion have made the transition too.Under EN17092, abrasion testing is carried out on a Darmstadt machine, which spins samples at an rpm specific to the performance classification being aimed for (A, AA or AAA), then drops them onto a concrete slab where they slow to a stop. If there’s no hole bigger than 5mm in any direction, it’s a pass. Hold the REV'IT! Eclipse at eye level, and you can literally see right through them. On a hot day, you might be tempted to ride in shorts… don't. Wear these instead. They offer a CE A rating and come with REV'IT! 's Seesmart CE Level 1 knee and hip armor, and you can adjust the knee armor up or down. Flexible level 2 CE knee and level 1 CE hip protectors are also included as standard; whilst soft and comfortable during normal riding, they will harden upon impact to help disperse force. I haven’t seen many that use an abrasion-resistant material throughout the denim as well as full reinforcing at key zones, and part-lined jeans are becoming less common.
