The home-screen provides access to catch-up players, shortcuts to the TV guide, and your recordings library. The T3-R will never clip the end of a programme before its scheduled end time, even if another programme starts early and the tuner is needed. Arguably, getting something for totally free will get a true MoneySaver's heart pumping faster than any cardio workout ever could. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH).

If you go with WiFi, you’ll have to enter the password using the remote, and at that point, the T3-R will also check for software updates. If your device is located far away from your router, you might want to look into a WiFi range booster. For those with exacting standards, the Manhattan T3-R offers frame rate matching for 24/25/30/50/60Hz playback and can output audio in Dolby Digital Plus. The same goes for the internet-based streaming shows (which we’ll touch upon in a second) – those have nothing to do with the Freeview signal, and they look excellent on the T3-R. Another important aspect of the T3-R as opposed to a regular TV with a Freeview tuner, is the speed: Most tellies have an excruciatingly slow interface. If you're an Easyjet passenger who was issued a voucher during the Covid-19 pandemic, you've less than one week left to use it before it expires on 31 January 2024. In 2021, Manhattan’s T3 boxes – its Freeview Play device that came without recording capabilities – was suspended and ultimately discontinued due to the global chip shortage.

Below we list the branches disappearing and what the alternatives are if you still want face-to-face banking. You can also add shows to a special ‘Watchlist’, where all the catchup-shows you regularly watch – from different apps – will be waiting for you. The Manhattan T3-R supports 4K (UltraHD) and HDR content, but for the time being, you won’t get to use it much. Three hour timed recording and twice now it has only started recording for the last hour, text seems to only work occasionally along with a few small occasionally lock ups. Being so dependant on the internet, the first thing you see when you turn on the T3-R, is the screen that asks you to connect the device to the internet. In recent years, the BBC ran some trials with 4K content on iPlayer – namely World Cup games, Wimbledon matches, as well as Blue Planet II, Dynasties and even Dracula.

The remote is of decent quality, too, with large buttons and a white icon in the middle for summoning the Freeview Play user interface. I did briefly have the Aura (mine was faulty) but I think I prefer the T3-R interface although to be fair I only had the Aura for a day. When you do get around to using it, not sure why you have posted without doing so, let us know if it still cuts the end off outgoing programmes, rather than the start of incoming ones, in the event of an overrun, which is the reason I bought the Humax 5000 instead despite its many faults highlighted on here. The remote can also be used as a Smart Remote, by teaching it your TV’s basic functions – on/off, volume control and input selection. It’s important to remember one major difference between recording a programme and watching it via a catchup app – the adverts.Sometimes I leave my PVR on the channel of something I plan to watch, so if I get distracted I don't miss the start (or for Ad-skipping), then something else comes up and I'd like to record it, but currently can't as quick-record only starts at the current time, despite it having all the data in the buffer (this is from a channel without a catch-up service)? The Manhattan T3-R only sports three tuners, two of which can be used simultaneously to record live programming, while the third lets you watch another channel. They say the installation was easy, setting a recording is simple, and the handset is easy to operate.

And unfortunately, that can also be said for most of the other set-top Freeview boxes out there – they’re slow… and doing anything on the device takes ages (or at least it feels that way, with the speed of technology that we’re used to these days). We’ve concluded that the issues in the review were down to interference, and that the box offers solid enough connectivity. I am quite impressed with this box and if Manhattan introduces a few of the staple subscription apps in the future it would become my only streaming device. However, if you’re desperate to ditch your expensive subscription TV set-top box and/or breathe new life into an ageing TV whose digital tuners are looking increasingly ancient, there are few better options for a glossy Freeview Play recording and catch-up TV experience than the Manhattan T3-R. The roll-back, seven-day programme guide provides a different way to locate shows you may have forgotten to record, while a watchlist allows you to build a list of on-demand content you might get around to watching one day. Even the latest public software release, and the eventual availability of the Aura App, transformed the user experience, once the cumulative work on the beta's is made publicly available it goes to the next level. You can also access the streaming apps directly – most of them require free registration, though you’re better off registering on your PC or phone, and then just sign-in on the TV. The Humax box was previously able to do this until the Youview app was discontinued earlier in the year and I had thought that a more modern box would provide such a feature.
