Description

No one should have to compromise on their tone. And the Boss Katana MKII ensures you have the freedom to push your amp to its full potential, wherever you are. Phenomenal versatility BOSS Tone Studio software for customizing your sound with over 60 different BOSS effects, channel and global EQs, adjustable routing, and much more For recording, you can plug the headphone out into your audio interface, or you can go direct with USB. Both sound very good, but if you use the USB, the signal will be very quiet, which can be a problem. Finally, the Katana outputs audio over USB, so it makes for a great amp for home recording, and sounds better than many of the most popular amp sims on the market.

After that come the effects. There’s two buttons: ‘booster’ (overdrive/distortion) and ‘mod’ (modulation effects like chorus and flanger). The second set of buttons has an ‘FX’ and ‘delay’ section. These do exactly what they describe. The FX are effects, same with the mod knob. However, this includes more effects, like compressors and a second EQ section. The ’acoustic’ channel is meant for acoustic guitar, and it’s kind of a blend between the clean channel and the direct sound of the guitar. Some people prefer using this channel for electric guitar with pedals, others say it kills the tone.

New Sounds and Features Come to the Katana

It only gets better. BOSS are committed to giving you the best possible experience, which is why they've created a free update to expand the Katana's capabilities. This update to the Boss Tone Studio app brings a host of new features: By design, all Katana amps make it easy to dial in and save great sounds on the fly. The amp also includes tons of effects ranging from chorus and flanger to auto-wah and harmonizers. All of the effects are emulated after official Boss pedals. Same with all the overdrives and distortions. It’s really really loud. Personally, I’ve been able to easily get over a loud drummer and bass player with a 4×15 cab at not even half the total volume.

The Katana 50 MkII features USB and phones/recording outputs with mic’d cabinet emulation. Thisletsyou send mix-ready amp tones to a computer's DAW for direct recording, headphones for silent practice,or even a front-of-house PA system for live performance. Five independent effects sections (Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb) with three selectable variations in each. The ‘crunch’ channel is a little thinner sounding than the clean, and it’s the least good sounding channel in my opinion. This doesn’t mean it’s bad, but it’s not as impressive as the rest of the channels. The EQ is a little more important here, as it’s easy to get it to sound fizzy with too much of anything.

Optional GA-FC and GA-FC EX foot controllers provide complete amp control, including expanded Tone Setting selection, effects on/off, expression pedal control, and more With incredible digital processing power, the Boss Katana 50 MkII can also store your favourite amp and effects setupsfor instant recall. Simply dial in your favoured sound, and use the dedicated 'Panel' button to save and store.Four presetslots(two banks of two)are available, which can be switched onthe control panel or via a compatibleexternal footswitch (sold separately). One of the most popular modelling amps around gets the perfect upgrade

The Katana-50 MkII is an excellent choice for guitar players who want a versatile amp for live use. The EX version supports the Roland GA-FC and BOSS GA-FC EX foot controllers, allowing you to select your Tone Setting memories and engage/disengage the five effect sections hands-free. A line output with mic’d cab emulation lets you send a mix-ready direct signal straight to a mixing desk and house PA system or audio interface. New tonal possibilities are presented by the Stereo Expand feature, which gives you the ability to link two Katana MkII amps to create an immersive wet/dry rig, spread the stereo effects across two amps, blend clean and dry tones, and more. Better Than Ever Katana advocate Dave Simpson in particular has shown just how magnificent those Katana Amps can sound. There is so much granularity onboard that near enough everyone should be able to dial in a tone they love.
